Positive Behaviour Support is a type of support where positive behaviour support practitioners assist participants who may act in ways that others find challenging or hard to understand. Positive Behaviour Support is a service that can be received by some Participants on the NDIS; TAC and through the education system
Our practitioners work closely with you and your support network to understand the reasons behind certain behaviours. This process involves a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) and the development of a tailored Behaviour Support Plan (BSP). Our goal is to improve quality of life and provide evidence-based strategies that support long-term wellbeing.
You might hear the words 'Restrictive Practice' but what does it really mean? Restrictive Practice is anything that might be put into place to help increase safety or reduce risk, however some of these practices may impede on your rights. Your Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner will work with you and your support team to assist in providing adequate care, reduce or eliminate restrictive practices, improve your quality of life and ensure your human rights are not violated.
If you or one of your supports (that is, a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist etc) have let the NDIS know that you may need Positive Behaviour Support; then the NDIS may have provided you with funding to see a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner. If you take a look at your plan, you will see a funding category called 'Capacity Building - Improved Relationships'. If this category is in your plan then you can use it to see a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner!
